Thunderwolf Cavalry:
The Thunderwolf Cavalry of the Space Wolves are some of the strongest fast
attack units in WH40K, with a S5 and T5 in their characteristics and they have
2 wounds they are a unit that can survive to the end of the game. Here are some
points on how to play Thunderwolves in battles of 40k
·
Thunderwolf cavalry are excellent at shredding
infantry; Thunderwolf Cavalry can carry a power sword, frost blade, and wolf
claws. These weapons have an AP value of 3 so they can easily take out regular
space marines.
·
Using Heavy Unwieldy weapons are not a hindrance
since players can choose to either use the special weapons or the regular
attacks. The heavy weapons are usually AP 2 and are for either taking out big
tough creatures, characters or vehicles.
·
To help protect your Thunderwolves I recommend
that you give each rider a storm shield. Yes, you will lose the +1 for two
close combat weapons but it will be worth it. Thunderwolves should be well
protected because if they can get past the enemy lines, they can bring some pain.
Also they are a flexible assault fast attack unit to have.
·
In the preparation in reinforcing a unit of
Thunderwolf cavalry I would suggest that you have a unit of either wolf guard
or blood claws transported by a Drop Pod so that they can hinder the enemy to
allow the Thunderwolves to advance into combat.
Battle Formations
·
Thunderwolves units can have a size of up to 1 –
5.
·
An interesting tactic for Thunderwolves would be
to create 2 units of thunderwolves comprised of 2 riders. I’m using the amount
f models that I have in my collection as an example.
o
Unit 1 will be dedicated to attacking infantry,
so I would load it up with an AP 3 weapon like a Frost Blade, the FB will cut
down most fleshy infantry and would move through them quickly.
o
Unit 2 will be for heavy armor and vehicles,
even Monsterous Creatures if the need arises. I would load one rider up with
either a power fist, Frost axe or a Thunder Hammer. I would also load this unit
up with melta bombs for those hard to kill vehicles. Remember against vehicles
thunderwolves always hit on 3 unless the vehicle can fight back.
